About:
Celia Kettle is an abstract artist whose work is centred on the motif of the circle, symbolising a world of disintegrating planets and teeming oceans. Her distinctive technique involves repurposing used canvases, creating textured surfaces with washes of watercolour and acrylic that flow and settle organically. This process reflects her exploration of the boundary between control and the unpredictability of emotions, often mirrored in nature.
Her affinity for found materials began during her time at Middlesex University in London, where her deconstruction of a discarded object gained her recognition, later being showcased at the National Gallery. While studying at the University of Valencia, she received an award to exhibit her sculpture Llocs Llures in Javea.
Inspired by artists like Eva Hesse, Anselm Kiefer, and Anish Kapoor, Celia’s work reflects a personal and spiritual exploration of materials, using the metaphor of the Earth and sea to convey emotional intensity. Her art captures a dynamic tension between structure and fluidity, often blurring the boundaries both literally and figuratively in her compositions.
